Commenting on designs

You can give feedback per designer and on the brief. Giving feedback is absolutely crucial since it supercharges the designer to do better. Designers love to work with clients and want to learn how to make a logo design that you love.

The discussion between yourself and the designer will always be public, in order to maintain transparency with the contest.

You can give feedback to each designer through our discussion window.

Giving constructive feedback is an art. please have a look at the following tips for giving feedback.

Productive feedback

Productive feedback on logo design is the feedback that helps the designer improve the logo and achieve the project goal. Some tips for giving productive feedback on logo design are:

  • Give precise directions. Be specific about the changes you want and why they are necessary.

  • Write clear-worded feedback. Avoid vague or ambiguous statements that can confuse the designer.

  • Be realistic. Don't expect the designer to make drastic changes or redo the logo from scratch.

  • Use the right terminology. Learn some basic design terms and use them correctly to communicate your feedback.

  • Avoid too many details. Focus on the big picture and the main objectives of the logo, not on minor or personal preferences.

  • Ask questions, do not direct. Invite the designer to share their thoughts and reasoning behind their design choices, rather than telling them what to do.

  • Talk about how you feel about the design. Express your emotions and reactions to the logo, rather than judging it as good or bad.

  • Do not react immediately. Take some time to digest the logo and think about your feedback before you share it with the designer.

  • Frame your feedback with context. Always relate your feedback to the project goals and metrics for success, and explain how the logo can help achieve them

Unproductive feedback

Unproductive feedback on logo design is feedback that does not help the designer improve the logo and achieve the project goals. Some examples of unproductive feedback on logo design are:

  • "I don't like it." This feedback is too vague and subjective. It does not tell the designer what is wrong with the logo or how to fix it.

  • "Make it more modern/cool/fun." This feedback is too general and ambiguous. It does not specify what aspects of the logo need to be changed or what style or mood the logo should convey.

  • "Copy this logo from another company." This feedback is unethical and unoriginal. It does not respect the designer's creativity or the uniqueness of your brand identity.

  • "Change everything." This feedback is unrealistic and disrespectful. It implies that the designer's work is worthless and that you have no clear vision for your logo.

  • "It's perfect, don't change anything." This feedback is unhelpful and complacent. It does not encourage the designer to refine or improve the logo or to consider different perspectives or possibilities.

  • "You're the designer, you figure it out." This feedback is dismissive and irresponsible. It shows that you are not invested in the project or willing to collaborate with the designer.

  • "This logo sucks." This feedback is rude and offensive. It insults the designer's skills and professionalism and damages the relationship.
